GENERAL NOTE: Unless we can (relatively) soon overturn Prop. 14 in the courts, there are MAJOR changes in the filing requirements that are now required under it! Especially, we will no longer be able to use the 150 signatures in-lieu of the filing fee. Instead, they're going to require us to submit THOUSANDS of valid signatures if we want to not pay the filing fee -- probably somewhere between 3,000 and 6,000 valid signatures for a U.S. Congress race! So, most candidates will probably end up just paying the fee (around $1500, I think) -- although they can slightly reduce the fee by submitting some signatures for a "pro-rata" reduction in the fee (about a $35 reduction for every 100 valid signatures). Which means that (most) candidates are going to have to do some rather strong fundraising MUCH earlier than they thought they would have to! -Greg jan
