Draft GPUS Platform Amendment Call To Action
(NOTE FROM MARNIE: We've used "Green Solutions" in the platform section amendment proposals. I'm not sure if I'm convinced we should introduce the term, "Green New Deal.")
2010 CALL TO ACTION
Join our Green Party. Support our Green New Deal.
Our Green New Deal sets a new direction for the United States with sustainable, long-term solutions to the global environmental and economic crises. As we improve the health of our planet and economy, we will generate social justice and increase citizen involvement in our democracy. We intend to make the United States a true global leader in grassroots democracy, social justice, Earth stewardship, Green jobs and non-violence.
Our Green New Deal creates high standards to stop runaway climate change. We will reduce greenhouse gas emissions at least 40% in 2020 and 95% in 2050, over 1990 levels. We aim to power half of our nation's electricity needs with renewable energy by 2030.
Our Green New Deal creates 5 million Green jobs with massive public investments. Green jobs increase energy conservation and efficiency, support renewable energy and improve mass transit. Green jobs have are union jobs with living wages
Our Green New Deal stimulates a peaceful, profitable Green economy by cutting military spending by at least 50% and investing the dividend in green public works programs.
Our Green New Deal strengthens social justice in the United States. We support a single-payer “Medicare for all” health care system because everyone deserves quality health care. We support free public higher education because everyone should have the opportunity to learn. We will take the first step in ending the wasteful, violent war against drugs by legalizing, regulating, and taxing marijuana.
Our Green New Deal empowers people by curbing corporate power in the United States. Greens will stop corporate welfare, establish citizen oversight and regulation of the financial sector, and enact a Tobin tax of 0.25% on all cross-border financial transactions. We support an amendment to the United States Constitution defining "persons" as living, breathing human beings and stripping corporations of Constitutional rights and protections.

2004 CALL TO ACTION
The Green Platform presents an eco-social analysis and vision for our country. In contrast to the way in which major political parties create their platforms, through the back-room deals of insiders and power- brokers, we have created a grassroots process that invites submissions from every local Green Party and every Green individual. Through democratic process over a year and a half, we arrive at a final draft to present to our national convention for approval. The Green Platform is an evolving document, a living work- in-progress that expresses our commitment to creating wise and enduring change in specific policies and in the political process itself. The Green Party is committed to values-based politics, as expressed in our Ten Key Values. These values guide us in countering and changing a system that extols exploitation, unsustainable consumption, and destructive competition.
