Section title: Civil Rights and Equal Rights

Subsection title: Women's Rights

Our position: Greens support equal rights for women; a woman's right to control her body shall not be compromised.

Our history has been marred with oppression of and brutality to women. The Green Party deplores male domination in all its forms -- sexism, inequality, discrimination, domestic violence, rape, trafficking and forced slavery.

We are committed to social and economic equality for women, reproductive rights and protection from gender-based violence and oppression. We also support political equality of women in politics, government and leadership. That's one reason why we create gender-balanced positions in our internal party politics.

When we women's voices are heard, we will be able to create a world based on grassroots democracy, social justice, sustainable economics, ecological wisdom and non-violence.

We support:

a. We call for passage and ratification of the Equal Rights Amendment.

b. We call for equal representation of women in all levels of government.

c. We support the passage of the Convention on the Elimination of all forms of Discrimination Against Women.

d. We support the passage of federal and state laws to achieve pay equity, and funding for the enforcement of such laws.

e. We support reforms to end poverty and return dignity and opportunity to all mothers and their children.

f. Work places free from sexual harassment and job discrimination.

g. We support laws that ensure that women have the choice to have a safe, legal, affordable, accessible abortion regardless of age and marital status.

h. We support safe, legal, affordable, accessible contraception choices regardless of age and marital status.

i. Contraception and abortion must be included in all health insurance policies in the U.S., and any state government must be able to legally offer these services free of charge to women at the poverty level. Public health agencies operating abroad should be allowed to offer family planning, contraception and abortion in all countries that ask for those services.

j. Women's health care and family planning education must therefore be made readily available and accessible to everyone.

k. We support funding public education programs to address the root cause of all violence including violence to women.

l. We oppose illegal international trafficking in humans.

m. We support equal education for women in the United State and across the globe.
